New name, new start for Forest Academy, Cinderford

02 March 2015New name, new start for Forest Academy, Cinderford

Staff and pupils returned from half term to witness the unveiling of the new name for Forest E-Act Academy – The Forest High School.

The Cinderford-based school has had several names in the recent past, however the transfer of the sponsorship from E-Act to the South Gloucestershire and Stroud Academy Trust (SGSAT) has meant that a new name was necessary to recognise this new beginning and the range of opportunities in place as a result of the partnership.

Tanya Prosser, Headteacher at the School comments 'the last few weeks have been a bit of a whirlwind to be honest. We have been blown away with the support we have received from SGS Academy Trust since the New Year when they were asked to take over sponsorship of the School from E-Act. There has been a new focus on the School, how we present ourselves within our community and new approaches and ideas about the curriculum. Pupils love the new name and our new logo but we will retain our uniforms."

Kevin Hamblin, Chief Executive of the SGS Academy Trust added

'Forest Academy has not performed as strongly as it should have done in the recent past and as a result it has started to lose its way a little. We are determined to gain the confidence of the community back in the School and to ensure Cinderford gets the School it deserves. The name of the School is important as it sets the tone of our intentions. Over £250,000 will be spent on immediate interventions including a new curriculum offer with vocational opportunities, a repositioning of the school, refurbishment of common spaces including a new community café. We are absolutely committed to ensuring that the School starts taking a proactive role in responding to the needs of Cinderford. We believe that with the SGS Academy Trust sponsorship, the immediate changes we are making and the plans we have for the School in the medium term, parents in Cinderford will be more confident in the decision to send their children to The Forest High School rather than put them on a bus to other schools at a considerable cost in time and money.'

SGS Academy Trust officially took over the sponsorship of The Forest High School on March 1st and will be publishing their prospectus for 2015/16 to parents with children in the current year 6 accompanied by a parents information evening on 4th March from 4.30pm-5.30pm.
